Submit a Motion

A motion is a written proposal or invitation to the union council. As a member of Göta studentkår, you have the right to write a motion when you want to change or improve something in the union.

A motion usually consists of two parts:

First comes an explanatory text that provides a background to why you chose to write your motion, and which describes the problem or area of improvement that you have identified. Here you also have the opportunity to present your arguments for why it is important for The Representative Assembly to make the decisions you propose.

Then comes the actual proposal for a decision, which is written in the form of a statement. It is the statement that The Representative Assembly then chooses to either approve (agree to) or reject (do not agree to).

For example, a statement can look like this:

“With reference to what I wrote above, I suggest:"

that The Representative Assembly chooses study places on campus as a focus issue for the operational year 2021/2022 ”.

Feel free to spend some time formulating the statement clearly so that an uninitiated person can understand what you are proposing just by reading that part. It can also be a good idea to divide your proposal into several statement-sentences, as the union council usually decides on each statement-sentence separately.

Tip!

It is usually easier to get approval for a motion that describes what you want to achieve rather than a motion that states exactly how you want the union to do to achieve this. If your motion is too detailed, it may have to be rejected due to technicalities or details of the proposal that do not correspond to reality.
