The Department Council at the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and Theory of Science has an advisory role to the department prefect, Alexander Almér. The prefect is in charge of the department. The Department Council serves as a forum for discussion and dialogue about the department’s activities, and as a student, you are responsible for bringing a student perspective to matters that will be decided by the head. The issues discussed include things like the operational plan and budget, course syllabi, or important statements and consultation responses.
The Department Council meets about 4 times per semester, and the meetings last around 2 hours and 45 minutes. You will receive a renumeration for attending meetings. The notice, agenda, and notes are in Swedish, but the meeting is held in English.
In cases where a decision needs to be made urgently and by one person, you may be contacted via email so that the decision can be made in consultation with the student representative. An example of an urgent decision is if the grading period after an exam needs to be extended due to illness. In other cases, consultation and providing the necessary information happen well in advance of the decision.
As support in your assignment, you have Göta studentkårs Document of Opinions, the University of Gothenburg's governance documents, and the chair of the Humanities section as well as other student representatives. Get in touch at humsek@gota.gu.se if you have any questions about the position, or if you're interested in serving as a student representative on the Department Council at the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and Theory of Science!
